When the Wii’s Virtual Console was first announced, the collective "meh" uttered by fans of illegal video game emulation was so massive, it could be heard around the world. Pirates had been playing NES, SNES, Turbo-Graphx 16, and Genesis games free of charge for years, so naturally the idea of being forced to pay actual money for these games was an underwhelming prospect.
